At the age of 50, what are the signs of Menopause? How do you naturally help them?

Question by TropyWife: At the age of 50, what are the signs of Menopause? How do you naturally help them?

Best answer:

Answer by Robin B
I went into early menopause at the age of 42. I am now 48 things have gotten better, but it isn’t over yet. Here are some things I did to make it easier on me. I cannot take any or the medications most women get. First, I found, in my pharmacy, a soy based pill for menopausal symptoms, it helped me SO much, I was amazed. Next, for vaginal dryness I use Olive oil. I know, it sounds odd, but that is what my boss, a GYN told me to use. For the weight gain, I have to make sure I walk or exercises at least 5 times a week. As to joint pain, I swim or walk the dog.
I suggest you look into the benefits of soy. There are allot of ways to get it into your system. Also, make sure you take calcium, to help retain your bone strength. Vit. C is also important as well as Vit D and B.
Good luck and I hope this helped.

Menopausal hormone therapy once seemed the answer for many of the conditions women face as they age. It was thought that hormone therapy could ward off heart disease, osteoporosis, and cancer, while improving women’s quality of life.
But beginning in July 2002,findings emerged from clinical trials that showed this was not so. In fact,long-term use of hormone therapy poses serious risks and may increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. This fact sheet discusses those findings and gives an overview of such topics as menopause, hormone therapy, and alternative treatments for the symptoms of menopause and the various health risks that come in its wake. It also provides a list of sources you can contact for more information.

Are you sick and tired of all the jokes about menopause? Unless you’ve suffered the symptoms you just don’t “get it.”

Do you ever wonder why it can be so hard to handle? You try everything out there and nothing seems to really work.”

Part of the problem is that many of the so-called self-help books are written by women who haven’t reached that stage in their lives. Or, heaven forbid, are written by men! Doctors, perhaps, but men nevertheless.

Until there is a man who can suffer from hot flashes and night sweats due to menopause it’s probably a good idea to take what they say with a grain of salt!

Not only does it include a entire chapter debunking many of the myths surrounding menopause take a look at what else is covered:

Could It Be…Perimenopause?: How Women 35-50 Can Overcome Forgetfulness, Mood Swings, Insomnia, Weight Gain, Sexual Dysfunction and Other Telltale Signs of Hormonal Imbalance

Could It Be…Perimenopause?: How Women 35-50 Can Overcome Forgetfulness, Mood Swings, Insomnia, Weight Gain, Sexual Dysfunction and Other Telltale Signs of Hormonal Imbalance

A groundbreaking & definitive guide to alleviating the symptoms most women experience during the decade before menopause. With a clear & compassionate discussion of both physical & emotional issues, Dr. Goldstein shows women how to exchange the chronic subtle & not-so-subtle symptoms of perimenopause for greater vitality & health. The decade before menopause, says Dr. Stephen R. Goldstein, is a time of profound change–both physically and emotionally–yet many women don’t realize this. They may try to ignore subtle-to-bothersome symptoms such as erratic menstruation, “free-floating anxiety, inability to concentrate,” forgetfulness, weight gain, sexual difficulties, and insomnia, when they could be effectively treating these problems. Unfortunately, not all doctors recognize perimenopause or know how to treat its symptoms, which may lead them to discount patients’ complaints, or worse, suggest unnecessary treatments–including hysterectomies. That’s where Could It Be … Perimenopause? can help.

In clear, supportive prose, Goldstein offers no-baloney advice. “Today’s perimenopausal women has neither the time nor the patience to go through four to fifteen years of symptoms without relief,” he says. He fully delineates the roles of various hormones, how to determine if you’re in perimenopause or not, as well as how to treat the various symptoms to gain control over your life. He’s a big advocate of low- and ultra-low-dose birth-control pills: “There is nothing inherently advantageous about bursting the capsule of your ovary and having to repair it each month. There’s no reason for having fluctuating levels of hormones floating around unless you want to have a baby.” He also recommends some natural and herbal treatments (he tells which ones are more appropriate for menopausal or postmenopausal women, and which are worthless or even dangerous). He’s also a big promoter of sonohysterography, a type of ultrasound test that he says could prevent up to three-fourths of all emergency-room visits made by women with excessive uterine bleeding.

With added resources, including URLs for recommended newsgroups, Web sites, and medical databases, along with information about the very latest in treatments (such as crinone, a natural progesterone gel), Goldstein’s created an enormously beneficial reference for both women and health-care providers who could stand to brush up on this topic.

what are some common signs & symptoms of surgical induced menopause?

4 Comments 15 December 2011

Question by Kathy C: what are some common signs & symptoms of surgical induced menopause?
I had a radical hysterecomy at age 31 because of cervical cancer. I am now experiencing mild depression and horrible mood swings. I have two babies and I am not patient with them like I should be. could I be experiencing menopause?

Best answer:

Answer by sgrfsh
During a ‘total’ hysterectomy you will have lost the ability to produce estrogen and progesteron, and it the natural dimishing of these hormones that control menopause.

You should consult with your doctor. The mood swings may be indicative of something else, possibly clinical depression, but hopefully something mild and treatable.

If it turns out that you are entering menopause, it’s possible that the contraceptive pill may help with your symptoms, HRT may also prove useful.

Good luck!

every woman is different with age. My aunt was about 37 and my mom was about 54. They both had really bad night sweats and hot flashes throughout the day for years.
